(Grand)Parenting

Ever since we became parents of this cute little fireball, there are a lot of questions we have been asking ourselves about parenting - are we doing it right? Are we overdoing or underdoing parenting? Where are we going wrong etc. Fortunately for us and Aarya, apart from her grandparents (my parents and Bhagya's parents), she has another pair of grandparents whom she affectionately calls Gijja and Pajjibajji, who have guided us a lot about parenting. More than teaching, we have seen their parenting style and feel it's so apt. They keep reminding us to let our child be fearless, exploratory and curious. As an example, we went on a trip with another couple, their kids and grandparents. Their little one was almost of Aarya's age, may be a few months older. We went to a gift shop and both kids were curious about some glass toys. Apart from telling their children to not touch the item, the granny told Aarya that she should not touch it and wanted if she wants wanted, the shipown...

First day of Daycare

The mother is teary, the day she dreaded has finally arrived! Our little one is starting her daycare / school today. Most of my family argued that she's too little for starting daycare but I argue she had to start someday. It's not like we are sending her to jail. She'll go play, sleep, play, eat, more play and come home in a few hours. 😅 Can't believe our little one is 14 months and time just flies. If we were in India, she wouldn't start daycare / preschool until 2.5 years but here in Canada, it's a different scene all together. First the daycares are full and there's years of waiting period here. We got a very good daycare without wait time and they waited for Aarya to complete 14 months, we consider ourselves lucky in this case. The only challenge is that Gundi hasn't been introduced to English yet. We speak to her in Kundagannada and she knows some English words. It'll be interesting to know how she overcomes this. Exciting and anxious days ahe...

My little ಗುಂಡಿ

My daughter, Aarya whom I call ಗುಂಡಿ has turned 14 months. She has brought so much joy and happiness that we could never imagine. She was born 10 days overdue and felt like she didn't want to come to this world! After a 20 hours of painful labour we decided enough was enough and got a c-section done. The first night at the hospital, everyone went home and I was alone with the tired mother and the new born, she had her first poop and I didn't know how to clean or change diapers. I ran out and called a nurse for help, she said with a flat face "you are a father now, you learn it". That's how my father duty started and hopefully I have gotten better at it since then. When we go outside I don't hold on to Aarya as others wants to hold and play with her but when we are home, I don't stop cuddling her and kissing her cheeks. She rolled over when she was 4 months and 19 days, crawled at 6 and a half months and started walking by 10 and a half. I always used to te...
